International Day of the Girl!

I was on the CNN website to check up on what Sandy was upto in the East coast considering I have cousins splattered all across the US when I noticed that today is actually the International Day of the Girl! I know every day is another day of something or the other but I am damn excited about this day. Trust me, coming from someone who scorns the commercialization of every holiday, this day must mean something.

So what is this day and why is it important that we recognize it? It is an important day, especially for young girls all over the world and it is our responsibility as the Gen Y women to spread the word to these young girls about the importance of being born a woman. What we have learnt over the years and what we have to 'give' in terms of advice, suggestions, experiences...what we have learnt is often a great place to start.

There's another part to this day, and that is thinking about your oown past. Things that you  would tell your 15 yr old self. I found a very inspiring link on CNN and have posted that down below for y'all to check out. It has some of the world's most prominent women personalities from various fields giving their pearl of wisdom to their 15 year old selves. But honestly, think about it girls...what advice would you give your 15 yr old self?

Here is what I would tell lil Sophie...

"Life is too short and goes by before you know it. Be smart and make decisions after really thinking them through and even if things don't work out don't beat yourself over it. Don't give away your trust too easily and earn your respect by working hard at whatever you do. Learn to love yourself and don't try to be someone you are not for anyone. And hear out your Dad and Mom. They do know what makes you..you!"

So...what would you say??
